Pet-Friendly RV Campground Finder

Looking for RV campgrounds where your dog is truly welcome? Search our list of dog-friendly RV parks and campgrounds by state, region and dog amenities, from off-leash parks and dog washes to swimming ponds and pet-friendly cabins.

Every campground here was checked on its official website or official park pages. You will not find made-up parks or star ratings here, just the pet rules and dog amenities each campground lists itself, with a link so you can confirm before you book. We add more campgrounds state by state as we check them.

Tip: “Pet-friendly” often applies to certain sites only. When you book, say how many pets you have, their breed and size, and ask for a pet-friendly site. Bring your pet’s rabies certificate, since many campgrounds ask for it.

How to Choose a Pet-Friendly RV Campground

A campground that “allows pets” and one that is truly good for dogs can be very different. These checks help you find the right fit before you book.

  1. Read the pet policy, not just the “pets allowed” icon. Look for limits on the number of pets, size or breed rules, pet fees and whether pets are allowed in cabins or only at RV sites.
  2. Ask for a pet-friendly site. Some campgrounds allow pets only on certain sites or loops, so say you are bringing a pet when you reserve.
  3. Pack your pet’s records. Many campgrounds ask for a current rabies certificate or license. Keep vaccine records, your vet’s number and a recent photo of your pet together.
  4. Check the leash rule. A leash up to 6 feet long is the most common rule, and many campgrounds do not allow pets to be tied up and left alone outside.
  5. Look for real dog amenities. A fenced dog park, off-leash area, dog wash or nearby dog-friendly trails make a stay much easier for you and your dog.
  6. Plan for heat and cold. If your dog will ever stay in the RV without you, check whether the campground allows that, and use a temperature monitor that alerts your phone. Our RV travel with pets checklist explains how.
  7. Find the nearest emergency vet before you arrive, especially at remote campgrounds.
  8. Be a good neighbor. Pick up after your dog every time, keep barking down during quiet hours, and keep your dog out of buildings, pools and playgrounds unless the campground says otherwise.

Safety note: pets must never ride in a towed travel trailer or fifth wheel while it is moving, even in a harness or crate. Trailers can get dangerously hot or cold and are not built to protect anyone inside in a crash. Pets should ride secured in the tow vehicle or in a motorhome.

Pet-Friendly RV Camping FAQs

Are most RV campgrounds pet-friendly?

Many RV parks and campgrounds allow pets, but the rules vary a lot. Some limit the number, size or breed of pets, charge a pet fee, or allow pets only on certain sites. Always read the pet policy on the campground’s official website before you book.

Are dogs allowed in national park campgrounds?

Leashed pets are usually allowed in national park campgrounds and other developed areas, on a leash no longer than 6 feet. Many national parks do not allow pets on most trails or in the backcountry, so check the pets page for each park on the National Park Service (NPS) website before you go.

Do RV campgrounds charge a pet fee?

Some do and some do not. Fees are more common for pet-friendly cabins and rentals than for RV sites. The campground’s rate page or pet policy will list any fee.

What documents do I need to camp with my dog?

Bring your dog’s current rabies certificate or license and vaccine records. Some campgrounds ask to see them at check-in, and you will need them if your dog has to visit a vet or a kennel on the road.

Can I leave my dog alone in my RV at a campground?

It depends on the campground. Many do not allow pets to be left unattended outside, and some do not allow them to be left alone inside the RV either. If it is allowed, keep the RV at a safe temperature and use a monitor that alerts your phone if the temperature changes or the power fails.

Can my dog ride in my travel trailer while I drive?

No. Pets should never ride in a towed travel trailer or fifth wheel, even in a harness or crate. They should ride secured in the tow vehicle or in a motorhome.
